February 16, 2010
With the warms days we’ve had, the ladybugs are emerging from hibernation. I was walking around the property a few days ago and found several areas thick with ladybugs. The picture below shows a young oak tree, a couple feet tall, covered with ladybugs. It seems too early for them to be active but I guess they know what they are doing. Pretty soon, when the weather warms, clouds of ladybugs will pass our house for days. Next autumn they’ll return from the opposite direction.

A ‘Highway of Ladybugs’ These twisted, figure eight shaped branches sit atop a slash pile on my neighbor’s property. I was so caught up with the ladybugs that I didn’t notice the feather among the branches until I downloaded the picture.
